Topic of the session:
We take for granted that education is the process of nourishing and even shaping young minds. But what is a mind? A new paradigm in cognitive science, enactivism, sees the mind as a dynamic, adaptive process that involves the whole body, its emotions, and its relationship to the environment. If we look at young minds in this way, how does this change the educational process? In this session, I invite you to re-examine education from the perspective of the body, affectivity, and relationships between the body and the world. Together, we will discuss how education can nourish young minds that are fundamentally embodied, embedded, extended, and affective, as well as considering what character of minds our world needs for collective thriving.
About the facilitator:
Originally from Adelaide, Ksenia Filatov is a former high school teacher, and currently a PhD candidate in philosophy of education at Boston College.
